Morning: You will start your wine journey in the town of Ampuis, the birthplace of the Côte-Rôtie appellation. You will discover the steep slopes of one of the oldest vineyards in France where you’ll see how the sun exposure and the rich and complex terroir is perfect for the red Syrah grape variety. You will immediately be seduced by the magnificent view of the Rhone Valley. During a visit and tasting of 5 to 6 wines in a winery in the heart of the vineyards, you will learn about the origin of this exceptional wine and understand why it is so sought after and why it covers such a small area.

You’ll then enjoy lunch in a local restaurant, reserved by us.

Afternoon: You will then head south to go to the vineyards of the town and appellation of Condrieu, an even more discreet wine, but as important to Viognier as its neighbour is to Syrah. You will push the door of a local winery where you will see that the terroir, the grape variety but also the winemaker make a wine so unique. During the tasting, you will enjoy all the aromatic richness of these great white wines.You will end your day with a visit to an estate of the appellation Saint-Joseph, a little further south, where you will discover a wine a little more rustic which is characterised by it’s spicey aromas.

Northern Rhone wine tour was wonderful. We visited three wineries and the pace of the day was just right with each winery offering tasting and a tour.

Our group of seven had a great day! The wineries were great, the tastings were entertaining and very informative, and the tours around the wineries were an added bonus. I came knowing that French wines were very regional but not really understanding how the regions outwork. One of the positives of this tour is that you gain an insight into French wines, the regions and the governance around them. The scenery was amazing, particularly seeing how steep were some of the vineyards and how harvesting by hand must be such hard work. The lunch location was fabulous - the view - wow! It was another highlight of many on the day. I would highly recommend this tour particularly if you want to understand French wines and/or wines from the Northern Rhône. If not, cheers! Enjoy the tastings and the scenery!

Our guide Laurent was truly excellent. He was highly informative and lined up a great day for our group. If we had known how great this would have been in advance we would have booked a second tour during our stay. Many thanks for a great experience.

Mathilde was a wonderful guide- knowledgeable, friendly and with a nose for awesome wineries to visit. Each winery (Clusel-Roch, Julien Barge and Julien Pilon) was a different experience, but each had a great selection of wines. Turns out that Condrieu is our new favourite white wine! Mathilde also picked out a great local's spot for lunch. I would definitely recommend this trip to our friends.
